SpeedFiler 1.1 Released!

January 11, 2007 · 9 Comments

SpeedFiler is a major factor in how I keep my inbox under control, and without it, my outgoing items would all be dumped in Sent Items, instead of in the folders they really belong in. Basically, it allows me to file messages in a fraction of the time it would otherwise take using only Outlook’s own features. For me, it’s the difference between letting my inbox keep piling up and getting more cluttered vs. keeping a tidy inbox containing just the stuff I haven’t yet processed — the difference between working inefficiently vs. operating at peak productivity. [Full disclosure: I am the author.]

SpeedFiler 1.1 was released this week. Apart from adding support for Outlook 2007’s new Ribbon toolbar, it is a maintenance release that fixes bugs and improves performance and stability.

SpeedFiler is free to download and use for 30 days, after which it costs $24.95 to license it. However, by entering coupon code BLD742, you’ll get a 20% discount on your copy. Offer ends January 19.

Now we’ve got that out of the way, I’ll be posting much more frequently — already working on a few posts…

Great Tool. Thanks a lot. I got a licence.

One more Feature maybe for the next version could be an option for “save without attachment”. Useful for example when forwarding a message with large attachments.

I love this tool. It’s one of these rare utilities that does what it says on the tin, and does it well! When I’m sorting out my inbox, the only thing that matters to me is where I need to file emails, and SpeedFiler makes this a cinch.

I’m looking forward to more stuff from Claritude.

Hi – this is a really fantastic tool. Its already changed the way I work.
I have a problem though in the ‘move to calendar’ feature. I used to move certain emails (say with directions to a meeting) into the timeslot for that meeting in my outlook calendar by using the ‘move to folder’ option in outlook. That opened a dialogue box asking me which date, time etc.

Now though the message seems to get sent directly to the current date (and I have no option of choosing the date/time).

I am missing something or is there a better way to do this?

    thanks!

    Louise,

When Outlook moves a regular message to the Calendar, it converts it into an appointment, and then opens it up for you to edit. SpeedFiler does not yet do this (it is planned).

Workaround: just drag the message and drop it on the Calendar icon at the bottom-left of Outlook’s main window, under the folder tree. Outlook will then turn it into an appointment as usual, although it won’t be deleted from your inbox.

Ok great – the workaround does the job, thank you. Love your blog and this product!

    Looks neat.

Unfortunately my work computer is so locked down that I won’t be able to install.

However, I find Outlook’s shortcut Ctl-Shift-V (move to folder) works well for me; and if your folder tree is left expanded, starting to type a folder name will select it.

Right now I’ve completely given up on filing by folders – I just push everything I might ever want to refer to (including sent items) into a single Archive folder, and then use Outlook’s find function when needed (how I wish I could install Google desktop to index my email though…).

Nelson Email Organizer, which I have used with Outlook for over a decade, has this functionality and *vastly* more. It is essentially a set of optimized, customizable indexes (not an add-in or plug-in, runs independently) with a power interface to access them quickly. Very adaptable to GTD.

I don’t work for them, I am just a zealot trying to spread the word!http://www.emailorganizer.com/ .
